KiGGS Wave 1 – short profile

With KiGGS Wave 1, the Robert Koch Institute collected, between June 2009 and June 2012, comprehensive and representative data on the health of children and adolescents living in Germany.

Children, adolescents and young adults who had participated in the KiGGS baseline study (KiGGS cohort) and some of whom had grown into adults in the meantime, were included again.

The data were predominantly obtained by means of telephone interviews. Both parents of children and adolescents up to age 17 as well as their children (from age 11), youths and young adults were interviewed.

Time period: 2009 to 2012

Age: 0 to 24 years

The thematic focus of KiGGS Wave 1 was on physical health, mental health, health behaviour and general conditions affecting health (biological, psychological and social environment).
