KiGGS Wave 2 – short profile

With KiGGS Wave 2, the Robert Koch Institute collected again comprehensive data on the health of children, adolescents and young adults living in Germany. Data collection started in September 2014 and ended in August 2017.

Children, adolescents and young adults who had participated in the previous data collcetions were included again. In addition, new participants has been randomly selected and invited to the study.

All participants were asked to complete questionnaires. For selected participants, the study program also included physical examinations, tests as well as laboratory tests of blood and urine samples.

Time period: 2014 – 2017

Participants: 23.000 (planned)

Age: 0 to 29 years

Places of Data Collection: 167 cities and municipalities in Germany

The main focus of KiGGS Wave 2 was on health status, health behaviour, living conditions, protection and risk factors, and the utilization of services provided by the health system.
